The government has restored normal speed limits on motorways and national highways across Pakistan. Authorities withdrew the temporary restrictions introduced earlier to support fuel conservation efforts. As a result, motorists can now follow the previously prescribed speed limits.
Previous Speed Limits Reinstated for All Vehicle Categories
According to the National Highways and Motorway Police, cars and light transport vehicles can travel at 120 kilometers per hour on motorways. Meanwhile, public service vehicles and heavy transport vehicles can again operate at 110 kilometers per hour.
Similarly, authorities have restored the earlier speed limits on national highways. The decision applies to cars, light transport vehicles, public service vehicles, and heavy transport vehicles. Consequently, road users can resume travel under the standard regulations.
Officials have urged drivers to strictly follow the prescribed speed limits. In addition, motorists should obey traffic laws and adopt safe driving practices. Authorities believe responsible driving remains essential for preventing accidents and ensuring road safety.
Temporary Restrictions Were Introduced for Fuel Conservation
The government had reduced speed limits as part of a broader fuel-saving strategy. The move aimed to promote austerity and conserve fuel during rising global energy concerns. Furthermore, officials linked the measures to the fuel crisis triggered by the US-Israel war on Iran.
The decision followed directives from the prime minister regarding efficient energy use. Therefore, authorities implemented several initiatives to reduce fuel consumption nationwide.
Earlier, the government also announced a 50 percent reduction in fuel allowances for official vehicles. Additionally, officials directed half of public-sector employees to work from home.ย
However, employees providing essential services remained exempt from the policy. These measures aimed to lower fuel demand while supporting national energy conservation goals.
