Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre has completed more than 1,500 robotic surgeries since starting the programme in October 2023.
The hospital is now preparing to expand the facility as demand for robotic procedures continues to increase.
Officials say JPMC is currently conducting between eight and 10 robotic surgeries every day.
Robotic Procedures Worth Over Rs600 Million
Hospital authorities estimate that the combined value of robotic surgeries performed so far has crossed Rs600 million.
JPMC Deputy Director Dr Saddam Saleh said the total number of procedures could reach 1,800 to 2,000 by the end of 2026.
The robotic surgery service is being provided without any additional charges to patients.
The Sindh government is covering the cost of the programme through its healthcare budget.
Smaller Incisions and Greater Surgical Accuracy
Head of the Urology Department Dr Naresh Kumar said robotic technology has improved the hospital’s ability to handle difficult surgical procedures.
The system allows surgeons to operate with greater precision and improved control.
Traditional open surgery may require an incision measuring between 15 and 20 centimetres.
Robotic surgery can perform similar procedures through just three small openings.
Faster Recovery for Patients
Dr Kumar said robotic surgery can reduce blood loss during operations.
Patients may also experience less pain and discomfort after surgery.
Smaller incisions can help shorten the recovery period and allow patients to return to normal activities sooner.
The robotic system also provides surgeons with a detailed three-dimensional view of the operating area.
This improved visibility can make complex procedures safer and more precise.
