WhatsApp is preparing a major shift in its user experience. The platform is testing a paid subscription model called โWhatsApp Plus.โ This new feature aims to offer advanced personalisation and better chat management tools.
The update has already been spotted by several users during early testing. According to reports, the subscription is optional. Users can continue using the free version without any restrictions. However, those who want enhanced features can opt for the premium plan.
A spokesperson from Meta confirmed the development. The company said the feature is designed for users who want more control over their messaging experience. The focus is on personalisation and organisation.
WhatsApp Plus introduces several new features. Users will be able to customise chat themes. They can choose unique icons and personalised ringtones. Notification sounds can also be modified. These changes aim to make chats more visually appealing and user-friendly.
One major upgrade is expanded pinned chats. Free users can pin only three chats. With WhatsApp Plus, users can pin up to 20 chats. This helps in better organisation of important conversations. It is especially useful for professionals and active users.
The premium plan also includes custom chat lists. Users can group conversations based on preferences. This improves navigation and saves time. The feature is expected to enhance productivity for frequent users.
Pricing details have started to surface. According to reports, the subscription may cost around โฌ2.49 per month in Europe. In Mexico, it could be priced at $29 annually. In Pakistan, the expected cost is around Rs229 per month. However, official pricing has not been confirmed yet.
Reports also suggest a one-month free trial. This allows users to test the features before committing. The subscription will follow a monthly billing cycle. It will automatically renew unless cancelled by the user.
Users will need to manage subscriptions through app stores. For Android users, cancellation must be done via the Google Play Store. It is important to cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid charges.
This is not the first time WhatsApp has explored paid services. Before its acquisition by Meta in 2016, the app charged a small annual fee in some regions. That model was later removed to expand its user base.
The introduction of WhatsApp Plus signals a new strategy. Meta is now focusing on monetisation through premium features. At the same time, it aims to keep the core messaging service free.
The testing phase is currently limited. Feedback from users will play a key role. The company plans to refine features based on user response before a wider rollout.
If launched globally, WhatsApp Plus could change how users interact with the app. It may also set a trend for other messaging platforms to introduce paid tiers.
