ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of applications seeking the suspension of sentences awarded to human rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha until June 4 due to the unavailability of the special prosecution team.
According to 24NewsHD, Justice Muhammad Azam Khan heard the case. The prosecutor informed the court that although authorities had constituted a three-member special prosecution team, none of its members were available to appear. He said one prosecutor was travelling from Lahore, while another was busy before a different bench of the Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing, Justice Azam Khan remarked that he had been nominated for mediation training but chose to attend court specifically to hear the matter. He said he missed the training session, which had started at 8:30am, because of the case.
The judge noted that the court was hearing the matter in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and stressed that the Islamabad High Court remained bound by those orders.
The prosecutor requested the court to reschedule the hearing for either Thursday or the following Monday. After seeking consent from defence counsel Faisal Siddiqi, Justice Azam Khan fixed the hearing for Thursday, June 4.
During proceedings, Siddiqi requested the court to direct the prosecution to avoid seeking further adjournments. The judge responded that repeating such directions was not appropriate and reiterated that all parties must comply with the Supreme Courtโs instructions.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing until June 4, 2026.
