An American millionaire and experienced big-game hunter recently lost his life during a hunting trip in Central Africa. Ernie Dosio, a seventy-five-year-old vineyard owner from Lodi, California, died after a group of elephants crushed him in the Lope-Okanda rainforest of Gabon. This sudden incident occurred while Dosio was tracking a yellow-backed duiker, a species of antelope, alongside a professional guide.
Unexpected Confrontation in the Wild
The group unexpectedly stumbled upon five female elephants and a calf while navigating the dense forest terrain. Consequently, the elephants reacted to the surprise encounter by charging at the pair. While Dosio did not survive the attack, the professional hunter from the safari operator Collect Africa sustained serious injuries. Sources indicate that the animals likely felt startled or threatened by the sudden presence of humans in their immediate vicinity.
A Legacy of Adventure and Industry
Dosio was an important personality at the Sacramento Safari Club, who had been fond of international hunting for a good many years. He had assembled quite a lot of trophies during a number of hunts that he undertook in different parts of the world. Apart from being a great hunter, Dosio was also successful in running his business – Pacific AgriLands Inc. – which owned thousands of acres of vineyards located in Modesto. At present, local as well as international organizations are trying their best to arrange the transport of his body to the US so that he may be properly buried there.
