England completed a 3-0 Test series whitewash over Pakistan after beating the visitors by eight wickets in the third Test at Edgbaston on Saturday.
Chasing 130 for victory, England suffered a scare when Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay fell in the opening over. Mohammad Abbas removed both openers, giving Pakistan hope.
Joe Root survived a nervous start but quickly settled at the crease. He reached his 69th Test half-century from 57 balls and remained unbeaten on 62 as England completed the chase.
Root received two major reprieves during his innings, including one when Mohammad Ali bowled him from a no-ball. He later reached 1,000 Test runs at Edgbaston while controlling the chase.
Jordan Cox provided strong support at the other end. He scored an unbeaten 59, reaching his third half-century of the series before helping Root seal victory.

England reached the target in the 25th over, with Abbas finishing as Pakistan’s only successful bowler at 2-44. The victory followed England’s innings-and-103-run win at Headingley and 194-run triumph at Lord’s.
Earlier, Pakistan staged a late fightback through debutant fast bowler Razaullah. The 21-year-old smashed 81 from 63 balls, hitting nine sixes after Pakistan slipped to 318-8.

Razaullah shared a 121-run ninth-wicket partnership with Abbas, who contributed 42 runs. His nine sixes matched Ben Stokes’ record for most sixes in a Test innings in England.
Pakistan eventually posted 449, setting England a target of 130. However, the late resistance only extended the match into a fourth day and could not prevent defeat.
Pakistan had already made changes after the second Test, releasing seven players and removing head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and assistant Umar Gul. Meanwhile, England maintained their dominance throughout the series.
