The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) approved amendments to the judges’ code of conduct on Saturday. The revised rules introduce new restrictions on judges attending official functions.
According to an official declaration, judges must now obtain prior approval before attending certain events. The new requirement applies to judges of the Federal Constitutional Court and other superior courts.
Officials said judges cannot attend political or diplomatic functions without permission from their respective chief justices. The measure aims to strengthen judicial discipline and institutional oversight.
New Code Introduces Attendance Restrictions
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi chaired the reconstituted SJC meeting at the Supreme Court. The council also reviewed 10 complaints under Article 209 of the Constitution.
After considering the complaints, the council disposed of all agenda items. However, the declaration did not disclose further details about the individual complaints.
Council Meeting Includes Senior Judges
Federal Constitutional Court Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan attended the meeting alongside several senior judges. Supreme Court Justices Munib Akhtar and Jamal Khan Mandokhail also participated.
Other attendees included Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum and Peshawar High Court Chief Justice S.M. Attique Shah. Additionally, several substituted members joined the reconstituted council meeting.
The revised code of conduct will govern judges serving in the Federal Constitutional Court and other superior courts across Pakistan.
