LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has released funds to ensure the uninterrupted provision of free medicines in major public hospitals, aiming to strengthen healthcare services and reduce financial pressure on patients.
According to official details, several leading hospitals across the province have received significant allocations. Mayo Hospital has been granted Rs150 million to support the supply of essential medicines, while Sir Ganga Ram Hospital received Rs14 million for the same purpose.
Similarly, Jinnah Hospital Lahore was allocated Rs54 million to ensure the availability of free treatment-related medicines for patients visiting the facility. In addition, the Punjab Institute of Cardiology received Rs450 million, reflecting a major investment aimed at maintaining a steady supply of critical cardiovascular medicines.
Officials said the funding initiative is designed to guarantee that patients in government hospitals have continuous access to free medicines. Moreover, the move is part of broader efforts to improve the efficiency and reliability of public healthcare facilities across the province.
As a result, authorities expect the initiative to provide significant relief to patients, particularly those from low-income backgrounds who often struggle with rising medical costs. By reducing out-of-pocket expenses, the government aims to make healthcare more accessible and equitable.
Furthermore, health officials believe the financial support will help prevent shortages of essential drugs, ensuring that hospitals can meet patient demand without interruption. The programme is also expected to enhance trust in public healthcare services by improving service delivery standards.
Overall, the funding release highlights the provincial governmentโs continued focus on strengthening the healthcare system and expanding access to essential medicines for vulnerable segments of society.
