The Punjab government has introduced free medical fitness certificates for eligible driving license applicants in Lahore. The initiative aims to simplify the licensing process while reducing costs for citizens. Moreover, applicants can now obtain the required certificates from designated government hospitals without paying any fee.
According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), authorities have established free medical certification centres in 13 government hospitals during the first phase. The service targets applicants who require medical clearance before obtaining or renewing specific driving licences.
Government Hospitals Begin Free Certification Service
Special medical counters have been established at DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang Hospital, General Hospital Ghaziabad, and Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar. The service is also available at Government Hospital Samanabad, Qila Gujjar Singh Hospital, Shahdara Hospital, Bilal Ganj Hospital, Sodiwal Hospital, Kahna Hospital, Raiwind Hospital, Swami Nagar Hospital, and other designated government health facilities.
Officials said the initiative will improve public access to essential licensing services. Furthermore, it will reduce financial burdens for eligible applicants.
Digital Verification to Prevent Fake Certificates
The CTO said commercial driving licence applicants must obtain a medical fitness certificate before applying. Additionally, individuals aged over 50 must submit the certificate when applying for or renewing their driving licences.
Authorities are also introducing a digital verification system for medical certificates. The online system aims to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and eliminate fraudulent documents. Consequently, officials expect greater public confidence in the licensing process.
The Punjab government said these reforms will make driving licence services more efficient and accessible. Authorities also believe the initiative will ensure that only medically fit individuals receive permission to operate vehicles.
