RAWALPINDI: The divisional administration has directed authorities in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Murree to impose Section 144 during the monsoon season. The order bans swimming and recreational activities in nullahs, canals, dams, and other fast-flowing water bodies.
The decision came during a meeting chaired by Rawalpindi Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak. Officials reviewed monsoon preparedness across the division, and deputy commissioners along with relevant departments attended the session.
Monsoon Safety and Flood Preparedness Measures
Furthermore, the commissioner instructed all districts to establish dedicated control rooms. These centers will monitor flood-related situations and ensure rapid emergency response across vulnerable areas.
In addition, he directed civic agencies to complete geo-tagging of manholes and ensure they remain properly covered in urban zones. He emphasized improved urban safety ahead of expected heavy rainfall.
Moreover, authorities were ordered to complete cleaning of storm drains, sewer lines, and drainage channels. They were also instructed to remove encroachments that block natural water flow and increase flood risk.
Evacuation Planning and Emergency Response
Meanwhile, Khattak asked district administrations to prepare evacuation plans for residents in low-lying areas if necessary. He also directed departments to submit resource requirements to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Additionally, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence were instructed to conduct regular mock drills. These exercises aim to test readiness and improve coordination during emergencies.
The commissioner further directed Wasa and other civic bodies to complete cleaning of Leh Nullah and major drains before the monsoon season. He stressed that low-lying areas must remain clear of solid waste to prevent urban flooding.
