Major Allocations Focus on Public Welfare and Essential Services
The Punjab government has finalized a series of budget proposals worth billions of rupees for the fiscal year 2026-27, with significant allocations directed toward public welfare, healthcare, subsidies and development initiatives.
According to the proposed budget framework, authorities have earmarked Rs476.4 billion for public welfare projects aimed at improving services and living standards across the province. In addition, the government plans to allocate Rs150 billion for waste management initiatives to strengthen sanitation systems and improve environmental conditions in urban and rural areas.
Furthermore, officials have proposed Rs80.1 billion for various subsidy programmes, including support for the transport and agriculture sectors. These measures are expected to provide relief to citizens while supporting economic activity in key industries.
Healthcare has also received substantial attention, with Rs809 billion proposed for the provision of medicines and other health-related services.
Social Protection, Education and Climate Measures Receive Support
Alongside infrastructure and healthcare spending, the provincial government has proposed major investments in social protection programmes. Under the budget proposals, Rs50 billion will be allocated to social welfare initiatives designed to assist vulnerable segments of society.
Additionally, authorities have set aside Rs54 billion for population welfare and health-related programmes. These funds are expected to support ongoing efforts to improve public health services and community welfare projects.
The government has also proposed Rs35 billion for the Ramazan Package, which aims to provide assistance and relief during the holy month. Meanwhile, public universities across Punjab are expected to receive Rs20 billion in grants to support higher education and institutional development.
Environmental sustainability remains another priority area. The budget proposes Rs8 billion for projects addressing climate change challenges and environmental protection measures.
Moreover, officials have allocated Rs4 billion for the Himmat Card programme and Rs3 billion for the Minority Card initiative, both designed to provide targeted support to specific groups within society.
The proposed allocations reflect the Punjab governmentโs broader strategy of balancing development spending with social welfare, healthcare, education and environmental priorities in the upcoming fiscal year.
