The Punjab government has extended the outdoor drone ban across the province for another 30 days under Section 144. This ban cites ongoing security concerns and potential risks to public safety. The decision was announced by the Punjab Home Department on Tuesday. Authorities moved to strengthen measures aimed at maintaining law and order.
According to officials, the restriction remains effective throughout Punjab. It also applies to all outdoor drone operations unless the government withdraws the order earlier. The extension forms part of broader efforts to regulate the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and prevent activities that could threaten public security.
Security Concerns Behind the Decision
A spokesperson for the Home Department stated that the government imposed the ban due to concerns regarding the increasing use of drones in public spaces. Officials believe that uncontrolled drone activity could create security challenges, interfere with official operations, and disrupt public peace.
The notification issued by the department noted that the unregulated use of drones poses risks to both public and private property. Authorities also warned that drone operations could negatively affect law enforcement activities and the maintenance of public order.
Exceptions for Official and Indoor Use
The order was issued by the Secretary Home Department, Punjab, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (PPC 1898). However, the restriction does not apply to intelligence agencies and law enforcement organizations carrying out official duties.
Meanwhile, authorities have allowed the limited use of small drones within enclosed venues such as halls and marquees during private events and functions. Event organizers must ensure that drone operations remain safe and comply with all applicable regulations.
The Punjab government reiterated that the temporary drone ban aims to enhance public safety, strengthen security arrangements, and prevent any misuse of drone technology during the restriction period.
