Internal differences within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have surfaced ahead of the planned June 10 protest. Tensions increased after a public exchange between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and senior PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram.
Speaking on a television programme, Sheikh Waqas Akram claimed he received no formal information about the protest. He stated that neither Salman Akram Raja nor the party leadership shared official details. Consequently, his remarks triggered a strong response from the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Challenges Party Leader
Reacting to the comments, Afridi questioned Akramโs commitment to the protest. He said Akram should attend the demonstration if he supports the cause. Otherwise, he advised him not to act on anyoneโs behalf.
Furthermore, Afridi reaffirmed plans for a major sit-in outside the provincial assembly. The protest will coincide with the budget session scheduled for June 10. He also declared that PTI would continue its struggle for political rights. Additionally, he claimed all PTI members of the National Assembly would participate.
WhatsApp Dispute Highlights Internal Divisions
The latest controversy follows another dispute involving Afridi and Ali Amin Gandapur. Reports indicate both leaders exchanged heated WhatsApp messages before a parliamentary party meeting.
Afridi urged lawmakers to attend the session and alleged attempts to undermine it. He also claimed some individuals sought to destabilize the provincial government. Moreover, he insisted that political strength must be demonstrated through action.
In response, Gandapur criticized Afridiโs remarks and demanded greater clarity. He argued that no individual could determine loyalty within the party. Furthermore, he emphasized that major decisions ultimately rest with PTI founder Imran Khan.
The public disagreements have intensified scrutiny of PTIโs internal unity ahead of the planned protest.
