The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has raised concerns over delayed transfer requests of doctors. Consequently, the association urged the Punjab government to address the issue immediately.
According to the PMA, more than 850 doctors await transfer decisions. All applicants serve under the Punjab Health and Population Department.
The association said every applicant completed the required three-year service period. Therefore, they qualify for transfers under the government’s approved policy.
PMA Highlights Administrative Concerns
In a press release, PMA President Prof Dr Shahid Malik criticized the prolonged delays. He alleged Health and Population Secretary Nadia Saqib has not decided any transfer application.
Prof Malik said the pending cases have created professional uncertainty for affected doctors. Moreover, the delays have caused mental stress and administrative difficulties.
He urged authorities to process all applications without further delay.
Doctors May Seek Legal Action
The PMA warned doctors could approach the Lahore High Court if delays continue. The association said legal action may become necessary to protect their legitimate rights.
Furthermore, Prof Malik appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene. He requested the chief minister direct the Health and Population Secretary to resolve all pending applications.
The PMA also demanded decisions based on merit and transparency. Additionally, it called for authorities to complete the process within a fixed deadline.
