ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the evolving regional situation and ongoing diplomatic efforts ahead of the second round of peace talks in Islamabad.
The call, which lasted around 45 minutes, was described as cordial and constructive. Both leaders exchanged views on key regional developments, emphasizing the need to promote peace and long-term stability amid rising tensions.
During the conversation, Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Iranian president for sending a delegation to Islamabad, calling it a positive step toward strengthening dialogue between the two neighboring countries. He also briefed Pezeshkian on his recent engagements with leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, noting that these interactions have contributed to broader efforts aimed at ensuring lasting regional peace.
Furthermore, the prime minister expressed appreciation for the constructive discussions held during the recent visit of Pakistanโs field marshal to Tehran, highlighting the importance of sustained high-level engagement. He reiterated Pakistanโs commitment to working closely with friendly nations to advance stability and cooperation across the region.
In addition, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his good wishes for Iranโs Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, reaffirming Islamabadโs intent to maintain strong bilateral relations with Tehran.
In response, President Pezeshkian thanked the prime minister and Pakistanโs military leadership for their continued commitment to peace. He acknowledged Pakistanโs role in promoting regional stability and expressed confidence that ties between the two countries would further strengthen in the coming days.
