PESHAWAR: Police shot dead four suspects in Peshawar who were involved in the gang rape of two women. Police arrested the suspects over the alleged gang rape of women and killed them in an encounter in Peshawar’s Rehman Baba area today.
Police said armed men ambushed a police team while officers were taking the suspects for identification and recovery. An exchange of fire followed, killing all four suspects, police said. The attackers fired at the suspects before escaping from the scene.
Police had arrested the four men a day earlier over the alleged gang rape of two women in Garhi Mosa Khan. According to police, the suspects entered a neighbour’s house after scaling its wall around 2 am on Sunday.
They allegedly tied the homeowner and his minor son before sexually assaulting his two wives at gunpoint. The suspects also took the women’s mobile phones after the assault. A seven-year-old girl witnessed the incident, prompting authorities to include Child Protection Act provisions in the case.
Police launch investigation
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Rehman Baba police station. Following forensic analysis, officers were taking the suspects for identification and recovery when the attack occurred.
Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed and Senior Superintendent Police Operations Farhan Khan had ordered swift action following the incident.
Police said their teams arrested the suspects after investigating the case and conducting forensic analysis. The latest encounter is now under investigation as police examine the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ deaths and the escape of their alleged accomplices.
