Company Moves Toward Renewable Energy
Pioneer Cement Limited has approved the installation of a 28.265 megawatt solar power plant at its manufacturing facility in Khushab.
The project will be developed at the companyโs plant in Chenki, Jauharabad, District Khushab.
The company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange about the decision through an official notice on Monday.
According to the notice, the Board of Directors has approved the solar power project as part of the companyโs wider plan to improve efficiency and reduce energy expenses.
Pioneer Cement said the plant is expected to begin commercial operations during the second quarter of fiscal year 2026-27.
The move comes at a time when cement manufacturers are facing rising power costs. Energy remains one of the biggest expenses for the cement industry.
Solar Project Expected to Bring Major Savings
The company expects the new solar power plant to help reduce electricity costs at its manufacturing site.
Lower energy costs may improve operational efficiency and support profitability in the long run.
Pioneer Cement said the investment reflects its commitment to sustainability, operational excellence and long-term value creation for shareholders.
The company also confirmed that the project will be financed entirely through internal cash flows.
This means Pioneer Cement will not rely on external borrowing for the solar installation.
The decision highlights the companyโs focus on using available financial resources to support future growth.
It also shows growing confidence in renewable energy as a cost-saving solution for industrial operations.
Cement Sector Increasingly Turns to Solar Power
Pioneer Cementโs latest project is part of a larger shift in Pakistanโs cement sector.
Several cement companies have been investing in renewable energy to reduce dependence on grid electricity.
The sector has been under pressure due to higher fuel prices, expensive power tariffs and rising production costs.
Solar energy offers companies a way to control costs and improve long-term planning.
For energy-intensive industries like cement manufacturing, renewable power can make operations more stable and competitive.
The new plant is also expected to support environmental goals by reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
As energy prices remain a major concern, more manufacturers may follow similar strategies in the coming years.
Pioneer Cementโs 28.265MW solar project is therefore an important step for both the company and Pakistanโs industrial energy transition.
