Pakistan has expressed its desire to expand economic partnerships with African nations and strengthen trade relations. Additional Secretary of Foreign Affairs Hamid Asghar Khan said economic cooperation with Africa remains a foreign policy priority.
The remarks came during the first Pak-Africa Roundtable Conference hosted by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry. FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh chaired the conference, which focused on trade, investment and stronger business connections.
Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Consuls General from several African countries attended the event. Representatives from Morocco, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia participated in discussions about expanding economic cooperation.
FPCCI Highlights Trade Opportunities in Africa
Atif Ikram Sheikh said FPCCI is actively working to increase economic activities with African nations. He added that the federation will continue connecting business communities and strengthening trade relations between both regions.
Sheikh stressed the importance of increasing business-to-business and chamber-to-chamber contacts. He said stronger connections could help Pakistani businesses enter African markets and explore new investment opportunities.
He highlighted agriculture, pharmaceuticals, minerals, mining, technology, food and infrastructure as promising sectors. According to Sheikh, both regions can benefit from their large populations, resources and expanding markets.
Pakistan Seeks Greater Economic Cooperation
Hamid Asghar Khan said Pakistan attaches special importance to trade and economic cooperation with African countries. He described stronger economic links with Africa as a key priority of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
Khan encouraged Pakistani businesses to make full use of opportunities in African markets. He also assured that the government would provide possible facilitation to support trade and investment.
He stressed that stronger Pak-Africa relations require coordinated diplomatic and commercial efforts. Khan also described the FPCCI conference as an important step toward expanding mutually beneficial economic partnerships.
FPCCI noted that more than 50 African countries hold strategic importance for Pakistan. Therefore, both sides must pursue practical measures to deepen economic ties and create new business opportunities.
