South Korea defeated Pakistan 4-1 in Friday’s semi-final of the Men’s Junior Asia Cup. The victory came at the Moqi Training Base and ended Pakistan’s unbeaten tournament run.
Choi Dohyeon scored twice to lead South Korea into the tournament final. They will now face India, who defeated Malaysia 3-1 in the other semi-final.
Pakistan will meet Malaysia in Sunday’s bronze medal match at the same venue. However, the defeat ended Pakistan’s hopes of winning the Junior Asia Cup title.
South Korea Take Control Before Half-Time
Both teams started cautiously and failed to score during the opening quarter. However, South Korea broke the deadlock six minutes into the second quarter.
Seowon Park scored from open play to give South Korea the lead. Five minutes later, Minhyeok Lee doubled the advantage through a penalty corner.
Pakistan responded before the quarter ended as Nadeem Khan converted a penalty corner. The goal gave Pakistan renewed hope of completing a comeback before the break.
South Korea, however, maintained their pressure after the interval. Dohyeon restored their two-goal advantage in the 41st minute through another penalty corner.
Pakistan Unable to Complete Comeback
Dohyeon struck again seven minutes into the final quarter. His second penalty corner conversion gave South Korea a commanding 4-1 lead.
Pakistan pushed forward during the closing stages and searched for another goal. However, South Korea’s defence remained organised and prevented further scoring.
The result handed Pakistan their first defeat of the tournament. It also ended their campaign for the Junior Asia Cup championship.
South Korea will now face India in the final at the Moqi Training Base. Meanwhile, Pakistan will battle Malaysia for the bronze medal on Sunday.
