Petrol Jumps by Rs3.81 While Diesel Becomes Rs3.59 More Expensive
The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel again as Pakistan continues frequent fuel price revisions.
According to the latest petroleum price notification, motor spirit petrol has been increased by Rs3.81 per litre, taking the new price to Rs341.59 per litre.
The price of high-speed diesel has risen by Rs3.59 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs368.29 per litre.
The revised prices are effective from August 22 through August 24, 2026.
The latest increase follows another upward revision announced just one day earlier.
For August 21, petrol was increased by Rs0.27 per litre, taking its price from Rs337.51 to Rs337.78 per litre.
High-speed diesel was increased by Rs1.64, from Rs363.06 to Rs364.70 per litre.
This means petrol has increased by Rs4.08 per litre across the latest two revisions, while diesel has risen by Rs5.23 per litre over the same period.
Diesel Remains Below Recent Peak Despite Latest Increase
The latest diesel increase comes only days after the government announced a major reduction in its price.
On August 19, the government cut high-speed diesel by Rs32.63 per litre, bringing its price down from Rs395.69 to Rs363.06 for August 20.
At the same time, petrol was increased by Rs2.97 to Rs337.51 per litre.
The sharp diesel reduction followed discussions between the government and local petroleum refineries.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik had said refineries agreed to provide relief amid pressure from elevated international energy prices.
Despite the latest rise to Rs368.29, diesel remains substantially below its recent level of Rs395.69 recorded for August 19.
Petrol, however, has continued moving higher.
It stood at Rs334.54 per litre for August 19 before climbing to Rs337.51, Rs337.78 and now Rs341.59.
The latest official rates are:
- Petrol: Rs341.59 per litre
- High-speed diesel: Rs368.29 per litre
- Petrol increase: Rs3.81 per litre
- Diesel increase: Rs3.59 per litre
- Effective period: August 22 to August 24, 2026
Daily Fuel Pricing Keeps Consumers Facing Frequent Changes
Pakistan moved toward daily petroleum price revisions after renewed volatility in international oil markets.
The government had previously been reviewing petroleum prices weekly during heightened uncertainty in global energy markets.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik later announced that fuel prices would be determined on a daily basis according to international market movements and calculations by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
The frequent revisions mean motorists and businesses can now face significant changes in fuel costs within only a few days.
Petrol is heavily used by motorcycles, cars and other private transport, making price increases particularly important for household budgets.
High-speed diesel has wider economic effects because it is extensively used in trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, power generation and commercial transport.
Changes in diesel prices can therefore influence freight charges, public transport costs and the prices of goods transported across the country.
The government currently collects around Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel, according to the latest published figures.
The fresh increase means consumers will enter the weekend with higher fuel costs, while another revision could follow after August 24 under the current pricing mechanism.
