Lahore police have arrested a man accused of staging a fake robbery and filing a false complaint. The suspect allegedly claimed that robbers had snatched Rs. 312,000 from him on a city road.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Hair police station. The man contacted the police emergency helpline and reported the alleged robbery.
Police immediately reached the scene and launched an investigation into the complaint. However, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in the suspectโs account.
Police Detect Contradictions in Complaint
According to SP Cantt Atif Ameer, the complainant identified himself as Tanveerul Hassan. During questioning, officers found contradictions in his statements, which raised further suspicion.
Investigators continued examining the details and eventually concluded that the robbery claim was fabricated. They later identified Hassan as the alleged mastermind behind the scheme.
Police said the suspect had collected money through a committee system, a common informal savings arrangement. He reportedly possessed the entire amount before reporting the robbery.
Suspect Allegedly Confesses to Fake Crime
According to police, Hassan planned the fake robbery to misappropriate the committee funds. Authorities believe he intended to use the false complaint to explain the missing money.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly failed to maintain his version of events. Consequently, investigators said he confessed to staging the robbery.
Police have registered a case against Hassan for making a false robbery report. Meanwhile, authorities continue further investigations to determine all aspects of the incident.
The case highlights the legal consequences of filing false complaints and misleading law enforcement agencies. Officials said strict action would follow against anyone attempting to misuse emergency services.
