Pakistani freelancers generated $1.6 billion in export earnings during the first 11 months of FY26. The milestone highlights strong growth in the countryโs digital services sector.
Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad shared the figures in a post on X. He said freelance exports recorded an 80 percent year-on-year increase.
Freelance Earnings Show Strong Year-on-Year Growth
Freelancers earned $169 million in May 2026 alone. Moreover, this represents an 87 percent rise compared to the same month last year.
The data shows rapid expansion in Pakistanโs digital economy. Additionally, freelancers continue to strengthen their presence in global technology and creative markets.
Experts link this growth to rising demand for remote digital services. Consequently, more Pakistani professionals now work with international clients across multiple industries.
Freelancers also contribute significantly to foreign exchange inflows. Therefore, their earnings play an important role in stabilizing Pakistanโs external accounts.
Digital Sector Strengthens Pakistanโs Global Position
Khurram Schehzad described the performance as evidence of Pakistanโs growing competitiveness. He said the country is expanding its participation in the global digital economy.
Pakistani freelancers now operate across software development, design, marketing, and other digital services. Furthermore, their presence continues to grow in international freelance platforms.
Officials believe continued support for the digital sector can further boost exports. Meanwhile, policymakers aim to encourage skills development and improved internet infrastructure.
The strong performance signals long-term potential for Pakistanโs freelance industry. As a result, the sector is expected to remain a key driver of digital export growth.
