PDMA Issues Province-Wide Heatwave Alert
In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued a heatwave alert across Sindh. The warning remains effective from June 8 to June 12. Karachi is also included in the advisory.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a high-pressure system has formed in the upper atmosphere. As a result, most parts of Sindh may experience extreme heat conditions.
Furthermore, officials expect daytime temperatures to remain significantly above seasonal averages. The advisory predicts temperatures could stay four to six degrees Celsius above normal.
Authorities Urge Public to Take Precautions
Authorities have advised residents to avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. They also urged employers to protect outdoor workers from excessive heat exposure.
Moreover, officials stressed the importance of safeguarding children, elderly citizens, and people with illnesses. These groups face greater risks during prolonged heatwaves.
The advisory also highlighted a likely increase in electricity demand. Therefore, authorities requested citizens to conserve water and use it responsibly. Officials continue monitoring weather conditions and may issue further updates if temperatures remain exceptionally high across affected regions.
