A fresh weather system is set to bring rain, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms across several parts of Pakistan from September 12 to 17.
The Meteorological Department has forecast the new spell as a westerly weather system approaches the country’s upper regions on Saturday.
Westerly System to Intensify From September 14
The westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country on Saturday. According to the forecast, it could strengthen further on September 14.
Azad Kashmir is likely to receive rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms between September 12 and 17.
Rain is expected in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli and Mirpur during this period.
Meanwhile, the weather department has warned of possible urban flooding in several cities from September 14 to 17. These areas include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Lahore and Faisalabad.
Heavy Rain Raises Flood and Landslide Risks
Heavy rainfall could also increase water flows in streams and nullahs across several northern areas.
The affected areas include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kashmir, Murree and Galyat.
Furthermore, the department has warned of possible landslides in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galyat and Kashmir.
Rain is also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock from September 12 to 17.
Punjab is also likely to experience rainfall as the system progresses. Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan could receive rain from September 14 to 17.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan Face Rain
Most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience rain, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms from September 12 to 17.
Downpours are expected in Peshawar, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Bannu and Waziristan during the forecast period.
Various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to receive rain.
Sindh and Balochistan Weather Outlook
Unlike the northern regions, most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid during the period.
However, showers are likely in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Mirpur Khas, Tharparkar, Thatta and Badin from September 13 to 16.
Similarly, most parts of Balochistan are expected to experience hot and humid conditions. Rain is likely in Zhob, Barkhan and Musa Khel between September 13 and 16.
Overall, the approaching weather system is expected to bring a significant change to conditions across northern Pakistan. At the same time, several areas face potential risks from heavy rainfall, urban flooding, high stream flows and landslides.
