Morney Collapses After Appearing Healthy
A lioness named Morney died suddenly at Sher Bagh Zoo in Bahawalpur, raising concerns over animal care and enclosure conditions.
According to zoo officials, the lioness appeared healthy in the morning. However, she suddenly collapsed later in the day and died before she could be saved.
A veterinary doctor examined the animal and declared her dead. Zoo sources said Morney was in normal condition until around 11 a.m., after which she abruptly fell unconscious.
Experts Suspect Heatstroke-Linked Cardiac Arrest
Experts believe the lioness may have died due to heatstroke-related cardiac arrest. The final cause of death is expected to depend on the post-mortem findings.
Authorities conducted a post-mortem examination after the incident. The lioness was later buried inside the zoo premises.
Zoo sources and experts also raised concerns about possible shortcomings in the lion enclosures. They suggested that improper arrangements may have contributed to the incident, especially during extreme weather conditions.
Zooโs Lion Count Drops to 18
Following Morneyโs death, the total number of lions at Bahawalpurโs Sher Bagh Zoo has dropped to 18.
The incident has once again brought attention to the management of wildlife facilities in Pakistan, particularly during the summer season when heat stress can become dangerous for captive animals.
Animal welfare observers say zoos must ensure proper shade, ventilation, hydration and veterinary monitoring to protect animals from heat-related risks.
The sudden death of the lioness has created fresh questions about whether the zoo had enough preventive measures in place.
Authorities are expected to review the post-mortem report and determine whether the death was caused by natural health complications, heatstroke or possible negligence.
