The Lahore High Court has sought replies from respondents in a petition concerning a Christian graveyard burial dispute. The application requests permission to continue burials after they were allegedly stopped through a court stay order. Consequently, the court has initiated proceedings on the matter.
Petition Challenges Stay Order
The application, filed by Pannu Masih, concerns an 8-kanal and 18-marla plot in Chak No. 212-GB, Samundri. According to the petition, the Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad temporarily allotted the land as a Christian graveyard on May 11. Furthermore, the applicant stated the land was officially mutated for the graveyard on January 6.
The petition alleges that Khalid Munir secured a stay order from the Lahore High Court on June 4. However, the applicant claims he failed to disclose that the land had already been mutated for graveyard use. Therefore, the petition challenges the validity of the stay order.
Court Seeks Replies From Respondents
According to the application, Khalid Munir has used the stay order to prevent Christian burials. The petitioner argued that this action has caused serious hardship and irreparable loss to the local Christian community. As a result, the application seeks permission to continue burials on the designated shamlat land.
Following the preliminary hearing, Justice Abid Hussain Chattha issued notices to all respondents. The court also directed them to submit their replies before the next hearing. Meanwhile, the matter remains pending before the Lahore High Court for further proceedings.
