LAHORE: Several police personnel in Lahore have been booked after asking citizens for โEidi,โ officials confirmed on Monday. Authorities took action under legal provisions related to begging following complaints from members of the public.
According to a police spokesperson, the department acted under its zero-tolerance policy against misconduct that harms the reputation of the police force. The spokesperson said senior officers moved quickly after receiving reports involving personnel posted in Shahdara and Islampura.
Inquiry Confirms Complaints
Officials said DIG Operations Faisal Kamran had already directed field officers to avoid illegal activity and maintain professional conduct. However, despite those instructions, complaints later surfaced that some cops were asking citizens for money in the name of Eidi.
After taking notice of the reports, DIG Operations assigned an inquiry to the SDPO Islampura. The inquiry reviewed the complaints and found the allegations to be correct. As a result, authorities registered formal cases against the police personnel involved.
Cases Registered in Shahdara and Islampura
Police registered one case at Shahdara Police Station under FIR No. 2548/26. Another case was lodged at Islampura Police Station under FIR No. 1186/26.
The spokesperson added that both cases were filed under Section 155-C along with provisions of the anti-beggary law. Authorities said further departmental action may follow as investigations continue.
The latest move reflects Lahore policeโs efforts to strengthen accountability within the department and address public complaints against misconduct.
