The Pakistan Port Trust (KPT) achieved a record milestone by handling 2.651 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the current fiscal year. Officials confirmed the achievement at the end of the fiscal period.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the development on Friday. He said the record performance reflects growing confidence among business communities in Pakistanโs maritime sector.
Minister Credits Workforce for Achievement
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry praised KPT officials and employees for their dedication. He stated that their hard work played a key role in achieving the milestone. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of efficient port operations in supporting trade activities.
The minister also expressed optimism about the country’s future maritime prospects. According to him, Pakistan has the potential to become a major regional transshipment and logistics hub. Therefore, continued improvements in the sector remain essential for sustained growth.
Infrastructure Reforms Boost Cargo Traffic
Meanwhile, KPT Chairman Shahid Ahmad emphasized the impact of ongoing reforms. He said modern infrastructure and policy improvements have significantly enhanced cargo handling capacity.
Furthermore, he noted that these developments continue to strengthen sea trade and support the national economy. Increased cargo traffic, he added, demonstrates the effectiveness of recent investments in port facilities.
Officials believe that sustained modernization efforts will further improve operational efficiency. Consequently, the maritime sector is expected to play a greater role in Pakistanโs economic development and regional trade connectivity.
