KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has warned citizens about fraudulent messages circulating through mobile phones and social media regarding fake traffic challans and fines.
According to police officials, scammers are sending deceptive messages containing suspicious links and demanding online payments in the name of traffic violations. Authorities clarified that these messages are completely fake and have no connection with the Karachi Traffic Police.
Police Urge Citizens to Avoid Suspicious Links
Officials advised the public not to click on unverified links or share personal and banking information through unknown platforms. They further urged citizens to avoid making online payments in response to such messages.
Moreover, the traffic police emphasized that fraudsters are attempting to exploit people by creating panic over fake fines and challans. Therefore, citizens should remain cautious and verify all traffic-related notifications through official government sources only.
Police authorities also reminded residents that official challan information is issued through authorized channels and not through random links shared via text messages or social media applications.
Helpline Introduced for Public Assistance
Meanwhile, the Karachi Traffic Police encouraged citizens to contact the Traffic Helpline at 1915 for guidance, verification, and complaints related to suspicious messages.
Officials stated that the department remains committed to protecting citizens from cyber fraud and misinformation. In addition, they urged the public to report fake messages immediately so authorities can take action against those involved in online scams.
The police also advised people to spread awareness among family members and friends to prevent further financial losses caused by cybercriminals posing as traffic authorities.
