Karachi police arrested the security in-charge of a cash van for allegedly orchestrating a Rs 300 million robbery. Authorities made the breakthrough after investigating the high-profile heist on Saturday.
The cash van departed from Tariq Road to deliver cash to a private bank in Federal B Area. Supervisor Wajid, driver Waseem, and guards Akhtar and Niaz accompanied the shipment. However, investigators found Wajid remained in contact with accomplices throughout the journey.
Investigation Uncovers Inside Job
The crew stopped near Rizwan Park for tea before the robbery occurred. Meanwhile, four unarmed suspects approached the cash van and took control.
Investigators revealed the guards stood outside with the vehicle doors open for nearly 15 minutes. Consequently, police suspected planned cooperation instead of an unexpected attack.
Authorities alleged Wajid collected the vehicle keys from the guards before entering the van. He then closed the doors, making it easier for the robbers to execute their plan.
Surprisingly, the suspects ignored two pistols and a repeater rifle carried by the security guards. This detail further strengthened police suspicions of an inside job.
Police Continue Hunt for Remaining Suspects
The robbers later drove the cash van to a street near Altaf Pakwan. They transferred bags containing Rs300 million into another waiting vehicle.
Afterward, Wajid, reportedly from Parachinar, escaped with the remaining suspects. Police detained the driver and other security guards for questioning.
However, authorities have not yet registered a formal case against all suspects. Investigators continue examining every possible angle while searching for the remaining accused. Police expect further arrests as the investigation progresses.
