Family First Robbed, Then Caught in Deadly Police Fire
A tragic firing incident in Chakwal has sparked serious concern over the conduct of Crime Control Department personnel.
A nine-year-old girl, Hania, was killed on 14 June 2026. Her father, Adil Ahmed, and brother, Affan, were seriously injured.
Police said the victims were Pakistani-origin Australian citizens. They were travelling in a vehicle when three armed motorcyclists allegedly stopped them at gunpoint.
The suspects reportedly robbed the family and fled the scene.
Soon after the robbery, CCD personnel reached the area. Police said the officers exchanged fire with the fleeing suspects near the gate of a police station.
The suspects allegedly abandoned their motorcycle and escaped on foot.
Mistaken Identity Claim Raises Serious Questions
The situation turned deadly when the affected family tried to leave the area in their vehicle.
CCD officers allegedly opened fire on the vehicle. Police said the family may have been mistaken for the fleeing criminals.
Hania died on the spot. Her injured father and brother were shifted to hospital for treatment.
The incident has raised major questions about police judgment, use of force and operational control.
District Police Officer Kashif Zulfiqar ordered immediate action after the case came to light.
A CCTV-based investigation was launched to examine the sequence of events.
Preliminary findings reportedly indicated the involvement of CCD personnel in the firing.
One officer, identified as Shuja, has been taken into custody. Other personnel are still under investigation.
JIT Formed as Case Draws International Attention
Authorities have formed a Joint Investigation Team to probe the incident.
The JIT is being led by SP Investigation Sajad Gondal. It will review CCTV footage, witness statements, police movement and firing records.
Officials said the inquiry will determine responsibility and establish how the tragic incident unfolded.
In a separate operation, two suspects linked to the earlier robbery were reportedly killed in a police encounter during the early hours of the next day.
Police said the suspects were residents of Sheikhupura and Lahore.
The case has also drawn international attention. Australian media reports highlighted that the victims were Australian citizens of Pakistani origin.
The Australian government has reportedly taken notice of the case involving its minor citizen.
The Chakwal tragedy has intensified public calls for accountability, transparency and justice for the affected family.
