A viral notice claiming increased toll tax rates on Pakistanโs motorways and highways from July 1 has been declared false by the Communications and Works Ministry.
The notice has circulated widely across WhatsApp and other social media platforms. It lists revised toll charges for different vehicle categories and presents them as an official government notification.
However, no credible official notification supporting the claimed rate increase has emerged. Consequently, authorities have dismissed the circulating document as misleading.
Ministry Rejects Claims of Toll Tax Increase
The Communications and Works Ministry issued a public statement rejecting the viral claims. It described the information circulating on social media as false and misleading.
Furthermore, the ministry urged citizens not to trust rumours or unverified reports. Instead, it advised the public to rely only on official websites and verified social media accounts for authentic updates.
Officials also requested people to stop forwarding the misleading notice. They warned that sharing unverified information creates unnecessary confusion among commuters.
Official Toll Revisions Follow Formal Procedure
The viral document lacks several features commonly found in official government notifications. For example, it does not include a reference number, notification details, or a recognised issuing format.
Authorities explained that approved toll rate revisions always follow a formal notification process. Such announcements include complete documentation, implementation dates, and category-wise charges.
Meanwhile, the ministry has not announced any new toll tax increase for motorways or highways. Therefore, the viral notice should not be treated as an official government directive.
