US President Donald Trump has suggested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could visit the White House next week. The meeting would mark their first since the conflict involving Iran intensified. Trump made the remarks during an interview on Saturday.ย
Trump Downplays Reports of Growing Tensions
According to Trump, Netanyahu requested the meeting with the US administration. He said the visit could take place after his return from the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7 and 8. However, Israeli officials indicated the meeting could happen the following week instead.
Trump dismissed reports of strained ties with the Israeli leader. He said the two leaders maintain a strong working relationship. Moreover, he remarked that Netanyahu “knows who the boss is,” while emphasizing his influence over the relationship.
Recent reports have highlighted disagreements between Washington and Tel Aviv over regional security issues. Trump has publicly criticized Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. Nevertheless, he has repeatedly stressed that relations with Netanyahu remain strong.ย
Visit Would Mark Seventh Trip Under Trump’s Second Term
If confirmed, the visit would be Netanyahu’s seventh trip to the United States since Trump’s return to office. It would also be their first face-to-face meeting since February. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that both leaders recently agreed to meet soon in the United States.
The United States remains Israel’s closest strategic ally despite recent policy disagreements. Analysts expect the leaders to discuss regional security and diplomatic developments. Consequently, the meeting could shape future cooperation on key Middle East issues.
