Sindh is preparing for a new spell of rain and thunderstorms, with several districts facing unsettled weather through September 16.
The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory covering the period from September 13 to 16. Meanwhile, authorities have been directed to remain alert and ensure resources are ready.
Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Sindh
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a monsoon low has moved into South Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas.
The system formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha coast. It is expected to move westward, bringing rain and thunderstorms to parts of Sindh.
Karachi may receive light rain and thunderstorms from September 14 to 16. However, other areas could experience stronger weather during the same period.
The forecast includes dust-thunderstorm rain, with moderate to isolated heavy falls possible in some districts. Strong winds and thunderstorms may also accompany the rainfall.
Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan may receive heavier spells. These conditions are expected from Sunday evening through September 16, with occasional breaks.
Meanwhile, Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro may receive light to moderate rain. Dust-thunderstorms are also expected across these areas from September 14 to 16.
Karachi Division could likewise experience thunderstorms and light rain during the forecast period.
Authorities Directed to Prepare for Weather Spell
Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Rehabilitation Giyanchand Essrani said rain could affect different parts of Sindh. The expected spell will continue from September 13 to 16.
He directed deputy commissioners and relevant departments to keep machinery and staff ready. The preparations aim to ensure a quick response if weather-related problems arise.
Furthermore, Essrani directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert.
The PDMA has also asked deputy commissioners and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to take precautionary measures.
PDMA Calls for Vigilance
The authority urged relevant departments, DDMAs and other stakeholders to complete necessary mitigation measures before conditions worsen.
Authorities have also been advised to remain vigilant throughout the forecast period. In addition, precautionary steps should be taken to minimise the risk of any untoward situation.
With rain and thunderstorms expected across multiple districts, officials are preparing for possible weather-related challenges. Karachi and several other areas will remain under close watch through September 16.
