ISLAMABAD: The parents of social media influencer Sana Yousaf demanded the public execution of convict Umar Hayat after an Islamabad district and sessions court sentenced him to death in the high-profile murder case, ARY News reported.
The District and Sessions Court awarded Umar Hayat the death penalty and imposed a fine of Rs2 million for murdering Sana Yousaf. In addition, the court handed down separate sentences for trespassing into the victimโs home, robbery and taking away her mobile phone.
According to the prosecution, the convict entered Sana Yousafโs house and allegedly shot her dead after she rejected his attempts to develop a friendship with her. The incident triggered widespread public outrage and intensified discussions over violence against women and harassment linked to social media interactions.
Speaking to ARY News, Sana Yousafโs mother said she could never forgive the man responsible for her daughterโs killing. Recalling the incident, she described the trauma of witnessing the shooting inside their home.
โMy flower-like daughter was gunned down in front of me. I can never forgive her killer,โ she said while expressing grief over the loss of her daughter. She added that the accused shot Sana in the chest after she refused to engage with him.
Meanwhile, Sana Yousafโs father said the true test of justice would depend on the implementation of the courtโs verdict. He stressed that society closely watches such cases and expects strict punishment for crimes involving violence against women.
Earlier, the accused denied confessing to the crime during court proceedings. However, the court later announced its verdict after reviewing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides.
