KARACHI: A court in Karachi has granted police a three-day physical remand of alleged drug trafficker Anmol, also known as “Pinky,” authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the DIG South, the court had rejected an earlier request for physical remand a day before. However, police submitted a fresh plea on Wednesday, after which the court approved a three-day remand for further investigation.
Officials stated that authorities have also compiled details of the suspect’s previous criminal cases as part of the ongoing probe. Anmol, who investigators describe as a major supplier of cocaine and other narcotics, was arrested earlier this week from Karachi’s Garden area during a joint operation conducted by Karachi Police and civil intelligence agencies.
Police claimed they recovered narcotics worth millions of rupees along with a pistol from the suspect’s possession during the raid. Authorities further stated that officers seized cocaine, chemicals and other substances allegedly linked to narcotics manufacturing and distribution.
Meanwhile, the case drew additional attention after Anmol appeared in court on Tuesday without handcuffs and was seen walking freely through court corridors. The incident triggered criticism over alleged security lapses and the treatment provided to the accused during court proceedings.
Following the controversy, authorities suspended SHO Garden Hanif Siyal and SIU Inspector Zafar Iqbal for allegedly granting undue protocol to the suspect. Police officials confirmed that an inquiry into the matter has been assigned to the SSP West.
Investigators continue to examine the alleged narcotics network and financial activities linked to the accused. However, the allegations against Anmol remain under investigation and have yet to be proven in court.
