QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said on Monday that security forces prevented a major disaster in Islamabad after arresting a female suicide bomber during a timely intelligence-based operation. He made the remarks during a press conference in Quetta, where he praised the swift response of security agencies.
Foiled plot in Islamabad
Bugti stated that intelligence agencies acted quickly after reports circulated on social media about a missing woman. Subsequently, they tracked and arrested her before she could execute a planned suicide attack in the federal capital. He confirmed that terrorists had coerced the woman and prepared her for the mission targeting Islamabad.
Moreover, he explained that extremist groups used manipulation tactics, including blackmail and so-called honey traps, to recruit and control vulnerable individuals. He added that such methods increasingly target women for militant operations, which raises serious security concerns.
Bugti further revealed that the arrested woman allegedly confessed during initial questioning that she was assigned to carry out the attack. However, authorities assessed her situation as highly distressing due to psychological pressure and threats to her family.
The exploitation of women is condemned
In addition, the chief minister strongly condemned the misuse of women in terrorist activities. He emphasized that such actions do not represent Baloch culture or traditions. Instead, he said these groups operate under foreign influence and exploit innocent people for violent agendas.
Therefore, the government decided to return the woman to her father, allowing her a chance for rehabilitation and a normal life. Officials believe this step will help her reintegrate into society.
Praise for security forces
Meanwhile, Bugti praised security forces and intelligence agencies for their professionalism and timely intervention. He stated that their efforts successfully prevented a major tragedy in Islamabad and saved countless lives.
Furthermore, he urged citizens to stay alert against extremist propaganda and reject narratives that misuse ethnic identity for violence. He warned that terrorist groups aim to destabilize the country through fear and misinformation.
Finally, Bugti reaffirmed that the state remains fully prepared to counter all hostile designs and protect national security.
