Saudi Arabia has approved a new air transport services agreement with Pakistan in a move expected to strengthen connectivity between the two countries and support growing travel demand.
The approval marks another step in expanding aviation cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh as both countries continue efforts to improve transport links and facilitate movement for travellers.
The decision also reflects the long-standing people-to-people and economic relationship shared by the two nations.
Saudi Cabinet Approves Air Transport Services Agreement
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Saudi cabinet chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Jeddah.
The decision formally endorsed a new agreement in the field of air transport services between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
According to the official announcement:
โApproval of an agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the field of air transport services.โ
The latest development is expected to support broader aviation cooperation while improving operational coordination between both countries.
Growing Importance of Air Connectivity
Air connectivity remains particularly important for Pakistan and Saudi Arabia because of the large volume of passenger movement throughout the year.
Thousands of Pakistanis travel regularly to Saudi Arabia for religious purposes, employment opportunities, and family visits.
Travel demand increases significantly during Hajj and Umrah seasons, making aviation cooperation an important part of bilateral engagement.
At present, more than two million Pakistani expatriates live and work in Saudi Arabia and frequently travel between both countries.
As a result, improvements in air transport arrangements could contribute to smoother travel operations and stronger connectivity.
Existing Cooperation in Aviation
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have previously worked together to strengthen air transport links.
In August 2023, both countries reached an agreement intended to increase flight frequency and support efforts aimed at reducing air travel costs for citizens.
The latest approval builds on earlier cooperation and signals continued interest in improving aviation access.
Although implementation details have not yet been outlined, the agreement highlights the importance both countries attach to maintaining stronger transport connections.
Pakistanโs Broader Connectivity Goals
Alongside strengthening aviation ties with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan has also been pursuing wider connectivity initiatives with regional partners.
The country has shown interest in expanding air links with China and Central Asian states as part of broader efforts to encourage trade and investment.
Improved air transport infrastructure remains an important component of those economic objectives.
The latest agreement with Saudi Arabia therefore adds another dimension to Pakistanโs wider connectivity strategy while reinforcing an already important bilateral relationship.
