ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Google LLC have joined hands to improve online safety for children across Pakistan. The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on safer and more responsible digital use.
The collaboration will target children, parents, teachers and caregivers. It aims to give families practical knowledge and tools for handling the growing challenges of the digital environment.
PTA and Google Launch Child Safety Program
Under the agreement, PTA and Google will work together on a dedicated Child Safety Program. The initiative will focus on digital awareness, education and capacity-building.
The program will help parents and teachers understand online risks and guide children toward safer digital habits. It will also provide practical resources for navigating online platforms responsibly.
The initiative is designed to reach families across different parts of Pakistan. As a result, it could help improve digital safety awareness among a wider section of the population.
Online Safety Content to Be Available in Local Languages
The program will include online safety awareness material in English and local languages. This approach aims to make digital safety information easier for families to understand and use.
Training sessions will also be organised at educational institutions. These sessions will help students, teachers and other stakeholders learn about responsible online behaviour.
Additionally, a nationwide outreach campaign will connect millions of families with localised digital safety resources and tutorials.
The campaign is expected to make online safety guidance more accessible. It will also encourage parents and teachers to take a more active role in children’s digital lives.
PTA Highlights Importance of Child Protection
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PTA Chairman Maj. Gen. (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, highlighted the need for collective action to protect children online.
He stressed that cooperation between relevant stakeholders is essential as children spend more time in digital spaces.
PTA Member (Compliance & Enforcement) Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar also emphasised the importance of digital literacy. He highlighted the need to encourage responsible use of online platforms, particularly among children and families.
Focus on Safer Digital Environment
The partnership reflects a shared commitment by PTA and Google to strengthen online safety awareness in Pakistan.
Through education and practical resources, the initiative aims to empower parents and teachers. It will also help them support children as they interact with digital platforms.
The collaboration comes as children’s access to online services continues to expand. Therefore, improving digital literacy and safety awareness can play an important role in protecting young users.
The new program will combine awareness content, educational training and nationwide outreach. Together, these efforts aim to create a safer and more responsible digital environment for children across Pakistan.
