Saad Edhi Among Activists Held During Gaza Flotilla Operation
Saad Edhi, son of renowned humanitarian Faisal Edhi, has reportedly been detained by Israeli forces during an international humanitarian mission heading toward Gaza. He was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which included more than 500 aid workers and activists from multiple countries.
The flotilla departed from Marmaris, Turkiye, with the aim of delivering humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza. The mission was organized to provide relief supplies and raise international awareness regarding the humanitarian situation in the region.
According to reports, Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla during the journey and detained several participants, including Saad Edhi. The operation halted the humanitarian mission before aid could reach Gaza.
Emergency Video Released Before Detention
Before being detained, Saad Edhi reportedly released an emergency video statement. The footage allegedly showed Israeli forces approaching the aid vessel during the operation.
The flotilla was carrying humanitarian supplies intended for civilians in Gaza. Organizers described the mission as peaceful and humanitarian in nature. Activists involved in the operation stated that the purpose was to deliver urgent assistance and demonstrate solidarity with affected civilians.
The incident comes amid growing international criticism of Israelโs blockade policies and restrictions on humanitarian access to Gaza. Earlier this month, another Global Sumud flotilla carrying activists and aid supplies was also intercepted.
International Reactions Continue After Earlier Flotilla Seizures
Israelโs earlier interception of humanitarian vessels triggered criticism from Pakistan and several other countries. A joint statement issued by multiple nations described the detention of activists in international waters as a violation of international law and humanitarian principles.
Former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was also among individuals detained during a previous flotilla mission. He was later released and transferred to Turkiye.
The latest detention of Saad Edhi has generated strong reactions on social media and among humanitarian groups. International rights organizations are closely monitoring developments surrounding the aid mission and the detained activists.
