The number of registered political parties in Pakistan has increased to 167 after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) approved the intra-party elections of four political parties.
The ECP issued separate notifications confirming the approval of internal elections held by Aam Aadmi Tehreek Pakistan, Pakistani Awami Inqalabi League, Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek, and Kisan Ittehad Awami Party. Consequently, these parties now meet the electoral requirements regarding their internal organisational structures.
The approvals followed the completion of the required legal process under Pakistanโs electoral regulations. As a result, the country’s registered political landscape has continued expanding.
ECP Recognises Four Parties’ Internal Elections
The Election Commission formally acknowledged the intra-party elections after reviewing the parties’ submissions. Moreover, the approvals confirmed compliance with the relevant legal requirements governing political parties.
With these latest notifications, the total number of registered political parties has reached 167. The increase reflects continued political participation through newly recognised organisations.
Three Parties Still Lack Recognised Leadership
However, Election Commission records show that three political parties still lack approved organisational structures and recognised leadership.
These parties include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and the Pakistan Reform Party.
According to the ECP, their current status remains linked to the requirement for recognised intra-party elections. In addition, the parties must submit leadership details and organisational information in line with electoral laws.
The Election Commission has not announced further action regarding these parties. Nevertheless, their status will remain unchanged until they fulfil the required legal conditions.
