The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country. A western weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on June 11. As a result, many regions could experience relief from the ongoing heatwave.
PMD Director General Dr. Muhammad Afzal said the weather system will likely remain active until June 13. Consequently, temperatures are expected to decrease in multiple areas. The affected regions include Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Gujranwala, Lahore, parts of Balochistan, and Islamabad.
According to Dr. Afzal, scattered rainfall is also expected in these areas. Furthermore, cooler weather conditions may provide temporary respite from extreme temperatures. Residents in several cities have endured intense heat in recent weeks.
Karachi Likely to Remain Hot and Humid
While other regions may receive rainfall, Karachi is expected to remain largely dry. Dr. Afzal said humid conditions will continue across the city. However, sea breezes and stronger winds may offer some relief from the prevailing heat.
The Meteorological Department stated that Karachi is unlikely to receive rainfall during June. Therefore, residents should prepare for continued hot and humid weather conditions. Weather experts noted that humidity levels generally rise during this period.
Dr. Afzal explained that June remains one of the hottest months of the year. Consequently, higher humidity often makes temperatures feel even more uncomfortable. Many parts of the country continue experiencing challenging weather conditions.
PMD Issues Public Safety Advice
The PMD chief urged citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. He advised people to stay hydrated throughout the day. Additionally, he recommended avoiding unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
People should also limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours. These measures can help reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration. Meanwhile, authorities will continue monitoring the approaching weather system and its impact.
