LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to launch a province-wide crackdown on major food chains accused of violating tax laws. The move aims to improve tax compliance and recover unpaid government revenue.
The decision emerged during a review meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra. During the meeting, he directed officials to take strict action against businesses that failed to comply with previous tax directives.
According to the PRA, ongoing monitoring has revealed repeated tax violations by several food chains, including multinational brands. Officials said the authority has been tracking business activities through digital surveillance, data analytics and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
Moreover, the PRA announced that it would intensify efforts to recover outstanding taxes from defaulting businesses. The authority also plans to impose financial penalties and initiate legal proceedings against entities found involved in tax fraud.
Officials stated that advanced technology has enabled the authority to identify irregularities more effectively. Consequently, enforcement teams will expand inspections and monitor businesses more closely across Punjab.
Sipra stressed the importance of taking decisive action against companies responsible for causing losses to the national exchequer. He said strict enforcement would help strengthen the tax system and promote greater transparency in commercial activities.
Furthermore, the PRA chairman directed officials to enhance audit procedures and improve the use of digital tools to detect tax evasion. He added that stronger enforcement mechanisms would support the authority’s revenue collection targets.
The latest initiative reflects the Punjab Revenue Authority’s broader strategy to tighten tax enforcement and ensure businesses comply with provincial tax regulations. Authorities expect the campaign to increase revenue collection while discouraging tax fraud and improving compliance across the food retail sector.
