
ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl in ICT, a pioneering collaboration partnership between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and ConnectHear was signed. This project seeks to ensure digital accessibility and inclusivity for girls and women with hearing disabilities.
According to Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of PTA, accessible telecom facilities are vital. He noted that it ensures the development of an equal and inclusive society. On the other hand, one of the founders of ConnectHear, Zehra Dhanjee, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in digital services.
Efforts focus on awareness and safer digital access
As part of this celebration, both PTA and ConnectHear came up with videos that promote sign language awareness. These videos cover issues such as online safety and SIM registration using womenโs CNICs. This will help to make online services more accessible and safe.
In addition, the campaign shows a collective responsibility. This is aimed at addressing the accessibility gap. Additionally, it helps promote digital equality among people with disabilities within the ICT industry.
Technology seen as a tool for empowerment
They feel that such a partnership makes a clear statement. It brings hope and empowerment into peopleโs lives. They say that technology can be a leveler of sorts. It can provide an opportunity to women and girls who have hearing disabilities.
