Peshawar Zalmi delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday night as they thrashed Islamabad United by 70 runs in the Qualifier of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at Karachi’s National Stadium. The victory booked Zalmi a direct ticket to the grand final, while United must now fight through the Eliminator for another shot at glory.
Babar Azam led from the front with a brilliant century. After losing the toss and batting first, Zalmi posted a formidable total of 221 for 7 in 20 overs. Babar smashed 103 runs off just 59 balls, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes. This marked his fourth PSL hundred and set a strong platform. Mohammad Haris gave a fiery start with 35 off 16 balls, forming a quick 72-run opening stand. Later, Kusal Mendis chipped in with 41 off 26, and Aaron Hardie provided late fireworks with 20 off 10.
United’s chase collapses under pressure
Islamabad United made a promising start in their reply but failed to maintain momentum. They were bundled out for 151 in 18.4 overs. Sameer Minhas top-scored with a quick 44 off 23 balls, while Devon Conway and Mohsin Riaz added useful contributions. However, Zalmi’s bowlers struck regularly in the middle overs and restricted the scoring.
Aaron Hardie starred with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs. Sufiyan Muqeem and Mohammad Basit picked up two wickets each, while Michael Bracewell and Khurram Shahzad took one apiece. Shadab Khan was United’s most successful bowler, taking three wickets, but it proved too little too late.
Babar’s heroics set up Zalmi’s dominance
The win highlighted Zalmi’s balanced squad and clinical execution under pressure. Fans cheered loudly as Babar reached his milestone, and the bowling unit maintained tight lines to dismantle United’s batting lineup.
Peshawar Zalmi will now head to Lahore for the PSL 11 final on Sunday. Islamabad United, meanwhile, will face the winner of Eliminator 1 in Lahore on May 1, hoping to bounce back and keep their title hopes alive.
Cricket lovers across Pakistan celebrated Zalmi’s dominant show, which has made them strong contenders for the trophy this season.
