ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced a new digital verification system for pensioners using facial recognition through NADRAโs Pak ID mobile app. The system now allows pensioners to access their funds without visiting banks for authentication.
The government has introduced biometric facial recognition to simplify the โproof of lifeโ requirement for pension payments. As a result, pensioners can now complete their identity verification from home using a mobile device.
According to the minister, NADRA will support the system through its existing national biometric database. This integration helps verify pensioners more quickly and securely.
Previously, pensioners in Pakistan had to visit banks regularly to confirm their status and continue receiving payments. This process often created challenges for elderly citizens and those living in rural areas.
However, the new digital system removes the need for repeated bank visits. Instead, pensioners can now complete verification remotely through the Pak ID app.
In addition, the initiative aims to reduce long queues at banks and lower administrative delays. It also improves convenience for pensioners by offering a faster and more accessible process.
Officials say the system increases security while reducing manual paperwork. Moreover, it helps streamline pension disbursement across the country.
The introduction of facial recognition marks a shift toward digital governance in public financial services. The government expects the system to improve efficiency and accessibility for thousands of pensioners nationwide.
