Punjab Police has removed 588 officials from their posts over alleged involvement in corruption. Inspector-General of Police Rao Abdul Karim ordered action against the officials, according to police sources.
Sources said authorities suspended 178 policemen and dismissed 53 others from service. The remaining officials also faced disciplinary action over alleged misconduct and corruption-related charges.
Officials From Several Districts Face Action
Authorities took action against 56 policemen from Lahore and 37 from Rahim Yar Khan. Meanwhile, Multan reported 30 cases, followed by Nankana Sahib with 27 and Bhakkar with 25.
The officials included 154 sub-inspectors and 123 assistant sub-inspectors. The list also included 52 head constables, 147 constables and 44 traffic police personnel.
Police sources said authorities launched the action after receiving confidential information and public complaints. Officials received 185 pieces of secret information and 69 complaints from citizens.
Police Tighten Monitoring Against Corruption
The affected officials allegedly facilitated drug traffickers and mishandled information related to drug trafficking. Some also faced allegations involving inadequate supervision of anti-drug operations.
The Punjab Police leadership has ordered stricter oversight to prevent such practices. Rao Abdul Karim directed authorities to closely monitor integrity checks across licensing offices and police stations.
The IGP also stressed the importance of maintaining transparency within police departments. Authorities will continue monitoring officials to identify misconduct and corruption-related activities.
The latest action reflects Punjab Police’s efforts to strengthen internal accountability. Officials said strict measures would continue against personnel found involved in unlawful activities.
Meanwhile, police authorities are reviewing complaints and intelligence reports concerning departmental misconduct. Further disciplinary action may follow if investigations establish additional violations.
