Sector records strong growth in export earnings
Pakistan’s information technology sector maintained strong export performance as monthly receipts remained above the $400 million mark for the second straight month, reflecting continued momentum in the country’s technology industry.
According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), exports of information technology and IT-enabled services reached $423 million in April. The figure represents the second-highest monthly export income in the history of Pakistan’s IT sector.
Previously, the industry achieved its highest-ever export level in December 2025, when earnings reached $437 million. In comparison, IT exports stood at $413 million during March 2026.
Additionally, industry representatives described the latest figures as evidence of the sector’s resilience despite broader regional and global economic challenges.
Industry representatives call for further support
Meanwhile, IT exporters stressed the need for sustained policy measures to strengthen the sector and capitalize on emerging international opportunities.
Furthermore, official figures showed that during the July-April period of fiscal year 2025-26, IT exports increased to $3.81 billion compared with $3.14 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The increase reflected annual growth of 21 percent.
Industry representatives also highlighted concerns regarding internet disruptions, suggesting that uninterrupted connectivity remains essential for maintaining export momentum.
Additionally, stakeholders urged authorities to improve infrastructure through technology parks, faster internet services and the early introduction of advanced technologies including 5G and satellite internet systems.
The sector’s export earnings include contributions from freelancers, call centers and telecommunications services.
However, industry observers expect annual exports to remain below the targeted $5 billion level and estimate that earnings may close near $4.5 billion during the current financial year.
