Pakistan has decided to introduce a doorstep passport delivery service aimed at making the passport collection process more convenient, faster, and citizen-friendly across the country. The initiative is part of broader reforms designed to modernize immigration and passport services.
Officials say the move will reduce the need for repeated visits to passport offices and improve overall efficiency for applicants.
High-Level Review of Digital Passport System
A detailed meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa. During the session, officials reviewed progress on a newly developed digital application designed to streamline passport delivery.
In addition, new standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been finalized to support the upcoming doorstep delivery system. These SOPs are expected to ensure smooth implementation and standardized service delivery nationwide.
Earlier Reforms in Passport Issuance System
The government has already been working on multiple reforms to improve the passport issuance process. In an earlier review meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, several modernization steps were approved.
Officials informed the meeting that the processing time for normal passports had already been reduced from 21 days to 14 days, marking a significant improvement in service delivery timelines.
Expansion of Doorstep Delivery and Digital Services
Authorities also reviewed plans to strengthen the doorstep delivery service further. The focus remains on ensuring that passports can be delivered directly to applicantsโ homes with greater speed and reliability.
In addition, the government has decided to introduce a fully cashless system across all passport offices within 15 days. This step is aimed at increasing transparency and reducing the role of intermediaries commonly referred to as the โagent mafia.โ
Officials believe that digital payment systems will reduce corruption risks and improve public trust in the passport issuance process.
Future Plans for Passport System Modernization
During the meeting, progress was also reviewed on the proposed Business Passport category. This initiative is expected to support frequent travelers and business professionals by offering specialized passport services.
Furthermore, discussions included plans to establish a dedicated Passport Authority. The proposed authority aims to strengthen institutional capacity and improve long-term efficiency in immigration and passport operations.
Focus on Transparency and Citizen Convenience
Government officials emphasized that all ongoing reforms are designed to improve transparency, reduce delays, and enhance convenience for citizens. The introduction of doorstep delivery is seen as a major step toward a fully digital and user-friendly passport system.
With these reforms, Pakistan is moving toward a more modernized immigration framework that prioritizes accessibility, efficiency, and digital transformation in public services.
