Pakistan showcased its premium basmati rice at the Pakistan Rice Festival 2026 in the Netherlands. The event attracted more than 100 importers, retailers, chefs, diplomats, and business leaders from across Europe. Moreover, it aimed to strengthen trade ties and expand agricultural exports.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan praised the successful organization of the festival. He credited Pakistan’s diplomatic mission and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for hosting the event.
Pakistan Highlights Premium Basmati Quality
Jam Kamal Khan said Pakistani basmati rice has become a global symbol of the country’s agricultural excellence. Furthermore, he noted that rising international demand continues encouraging local farmers and exporters.
He described the strong European participation as a sign of growing confidence in Pakistan’s export potential. Consequently, the government remains committed to expanding agricultural and food exports worldwide.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Syed Haider Shah, said Pakistani basmati reaches more than 100 countries. He highlighted its distinctive aroma, long grains, and superior cooking qualities.
Expanding Agricultural Cooperation With Europe
The ambassador emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and international food safety standards. Additionally, he said basmati’s Geographical Indication (GI) status protects its heritage and strengthens its global identity.
Held under the theme “From Pakistan’s Fields to Europe’s Tables,” the festival featured premium Super Kernel Basmati tastings. Guests also sampled traditional and modern Pakistani dishes.
Participants received briefings on quality assurance, traceability systems, and European compliance requirements. Meanwhile, discussions explored broader agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands.
Officials also promoted the Food Exhibition 2026, scheduled in Karachi from November 23 to 26. Additionally, the “Goal for Pakistan” activity highlighted Pakistan’s internationally recognized football manufacturing industry.
The Netherlands remains one of Pakistan’s largest European Union export destinations. Bilateral trade currently stands at approximately $1.94 billion.
